LEAH-OUR YOUNGEST TURNS 4!

WE BROUGHT LEAH WHEN SHE WAS JUST 11 MONTHS OLD...TO SAVE HER FROM PERPETUAL POVERTY AND LACK OF EVEN A TWO-MEAL-A-DAY DIET. FROM DAY ONE -RIGHT FROM THE AIRPORT-GOD OVERFLOWED MY HEART WITH LOVE FOR THIS INFANT AND I DECIDED TO RAISE HER UP ...TILL THAT POINT, NONE AT THE HOPE HOME KNEW TO CHANGE DIAPERS, GIVE BATH TO AN INFANT OR FEED HER. WE BEGAN CONSULTING A WELL-KNOWN PAEDIATICIAN IN CALCUTTA AND GOT HER ALL THE MANDATORY SHOTS. ALMOST EVERYONE WHO VISITED US WANTED TO ADOPT HER...SHE WAS AND STILL IS THAT ADORABLE!

LEAH TOO WENT THROUGH THE HELLISH CONDITIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT SPONSORED 'HOME' FOR 20 DAYS IN MARCH BEFORE BEING TAKEN BACK TO NAGALAND FOR A FEW DAYS. SHE NOW STAYS WITH RUTH (WHO IS RAISING HER UP) AND HER ELDER SISTER KIM -BOTH RUTH AND KIM ARE ON STAFF HERE AT HOPE HOME CALCUTTA!

OCTOBER 25, WE WERE ABLE TO CELEBRATE HER 3RD BIRTHDAY WITH A SMALL PARTY.  THE CHILDREN TOO POOLED IN THEIR RESOURCES AND BOUGHT GIFTS FOR HER. AND NOW, EVEN AFTER A FULL 24 HOURS IS OVER, LEAH KEEPS ON SINGING 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU...HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEAH...'TO KEEP HER ENTERTAINED!

ONE OF THE GREATEST JOYS FOR ME PERSONALLY AND THE HOPE HOME CALCUTTA FAMILY...LEAH!

WORLD FOOD DAY 2012 - MAKE HUNGER HISTORY

World food day – October 16, 2012
MAKE HUNGER HISTORY

World Food Day was proclaimed in 1979 by the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It marks the date of the founding of FAO in 1945. The aim of the Day is to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. Most countries of the world have endorsed and acknowledged that food is a requisite for human survival and well-being and a fundamental human necessity
Theme for 2012
Since 1981, World Food Day has adopted a different theme each year, in order to highlight areas needed for action and provide a common focus. Most of the themes revolve around agriculture because only investment in agriculture – together with support for education and health – will turn this situation around. The theme for World Food Day 2012 is:
agricultural cooperatives: key to feeding the world

“Agricultural cooperatives – key to feeding the world” is the formal wording of the 2012 theme. It has been chosen to highlight the role of cooperatives in improving food security and contributing to the eradication of hunger.

HOPE HOME CALCUTTA AND THE WORLD FOOD DAY

Your opportunity to make a difference
We, at the Hope Home Calcutta started participating with this event from 2008. We encourage all our  friends all around the world to host a meal for their friends, family and associates and challenge them to share their resources  that will help put food on the tables of the poor children in Calcutta through the Hope Home Calcutta. STUDENTS in particular, can play an important part – organizing meals and mobilizing resources to help those who are lesser blessed than them. Last year, we were able to feed around 100 people for this event. This year  we are planning to organize a buffet for another 100 people, including the students in our school program. We need your help. We would need a minimum of Indian Rupees Twenty Thousand for this event (around $ 400 – that is $ 4 for an individual for a special meal). Please consider being involved.

World Food Day - 2011
The Hope Home Calcutta is also seriously considering engaging in projects relating to sustainable development and micro-financing projects that would establish a premise of legitimate earning, especially for widows and destitute women. This is directly linked with the need of some of these women having to come to us for admitting their children at the Hope Home Calcutta. Appreciate your insights and prayers in this matter.
Blessings and peace.
